THE SCIENCE OF VISUALISATION
Visualisation is when the creativity and magic of daydreaming meets the clarity and connection of goal setting.
Research shows that when we extract our GOALS and DREAMS from our minds and bring them into our external vision we can greatly increase the ability to ACHIEVE them.
VISUAL PERCEPTION
A majority of our cognition is lead by our visual perception. When you spend time visualising a dream or goal over and over again, your brain’s frontal lobe begins to identify with these dreams and thought patterns as physical reality. Our brains start strengthening our connection to the pathways of the thalamus, which is the center of sensory processing, emotions and personality.
From a neuroscientific point of view, the thalamus plays a crucial role in transforming thoughts into reality. Focusing on something that we see outside of our bodies, such as a vision board invigorates the chemical and neural systems within our brain to take action.
When our mental focus is more aimed at a particular situation, rather than the broad world around us, the following physiological changes occur (Balcetis, 2019):
● Increased focus and concentration
● Increased energy utilisation
● Improved oxygen absorbtionIncreased dopamine level which gives us the motivation to take action towards goals
● The Frontal Lobe is stimulated
● Decreased Stress
● Sense of purpose and wellbeing
MENTALLY CONNECT WITH YOUR GOALS
When our visual attention is unfocused or we aren’t mentally connecting with our goals, we do not experience the same psychological benefits. Instead, we become complacent. Our mind chooses comfort and familiarity over the unknown - causing us to avoid our goals and slow our progress.
However, when our goals are in the forefront of our minds, we have a sense of purpose, direction and constant inspiration flowing through our system. Naturally, our overall mental wellbeing increases (some may call this ‘motivation’).
Why is this?
The mental rehearsal of an experience can create the same chemical response within the brain as a genuine emotional experience. Yes! Your brain can be tricked.
ARE YOU READY TO START TURNING YOUR DREAMS INTO A REALITY?
